Jayavarman VII
Jayavarman VII was born in 1181 in Angkor (Cambodia) and was the 50th king to reign the Khmer Empire and reigned for 30 years from 1181-1218. He was the son of King Dharanindravarman II who reigned from 1150-1160 and his mother was Sri Jayarajacudamani. Jayavarman VII lived until he was 93 which was a very great age to live to back in that time, He was very well looked after and did very well for himself. Jayavarman VII was a buddhist and was considered the most powerful king of the whole Khmer Empire.
In 1177 the Cham invaded Cambodia. Champa King Jaya Indravarman IV planned a surprise attack on the Khmer capital by sailing a fleet up the Mekong River. The invaders raided the Khmer capital of Yasodharapura and killed King Tribhuvanadityavarman who was the present king of the Khmer Empire. Jayavarman VII returned to Angkor and found it in disorder. He ended to the disputes between the factions and in 1181 was crowned king himself.
